Many of my patients, who take good care of their bodies (good food, yoga, exercise regularly) feel guilty when talking about cosmetic procedures like Botox. A lot of women /men feel its better to age gracefully without resorting a help from a Doctor.

But what really does it mean to age gracefully. If the implication is that we should let nature take its course, i.e. we should do nothing, stop dyeing our hair, brushing our teeth, wearing perfume etc. Isn’t shaving your leg against nature? I don’t think so!!

I believe we can age gracefully by working to look and feel your best at any age, rather than throwing in the towel once you reach some arbitrary birthday. Even a 90 year grandma gets up and draws her eyebrow.

For some people aging gracefully might mean having a chemical peel to lighten pigmentation or sun damage, for others minor procedure performed over years may be way to maintain your looks without resorting to more drastic measures. You know some actresses look better now than they did 10 years ago, but who still look like themselves. Their secret apart from having a good lifestyle is to go to doctors who make sure their treatments look natural, not the done look. This comes with experience and technique used by doctor.

Like any medical procedure these have to be performed in a clinic settings .remember its not the procedure that makes some people look strange and others look ageless, it depends on the doctors skill doing the procedure .(no one blames a scissors for a bad haircut ).its all in the technique. So it’s very important to choose the right doctor for the right treatment. Real experience and expertise doesn’t come cheap, when it comes to your health, bargain hunting could end up hurting you.

Select a doctor

Who is board certified in specialty like dermatology or plastic surgery

Check for doctors credentials

If you feel pressured by a specialty or a doctor, turn around and walk. I always tell my patients that if they are not hundred percent sure about the procedure its best to wait!!

Trust your instincts!!

Botox:

liposclinic

The world’s most popular cosmetic procedure.

Botox is a purified version of a protein that is produced by the bacteria Clostridium Botulinium, arguably the world’s most popular anti-wrinkle treatment. Botox is an invention which has been studied over 100 years. It has been found to relax the ‘overactive muscle’.

When you are in a crowd, take a look at the way people squish their faces when they speak. We raise eyebrows, frown, and furrow our foreheads while looking at computer screen. Our face projects our emotions!

When you are young, your face springs back to place because of elastin and collagen so it smoothens out, but as time goes, you age and lose collagen so wrinkles stay creased. This is where Botox works, it relaxes the facial muscles allowing the overlying skin to smooth out and wrinkles to soften.

Botox is used to

  • Treat wrinkles in the upper part of face like frown lines (between brows), horizontal lines, crows feet, smokers line (vertical lines above the lips )
  • Lift your eyebrows
  • Lift the droopy nose
  • Smoothen the vertical bands at neck
  • Treat over sweating in underarms /palms and feet

A good Botox should help you look refreshed and relaxed as if you managed to get a real good night sleep or back from holiday. It shouldn’t freeze your face.

It’s a 15 min lunch hour procedure. On an average the treatment takes up to a week for Botox to take effect and it lasts for an average of 4-6 months depending on the area of treatment.
